    • Background: Breast cancer has been reported as the most common cancer in women and the second leading cause of death from cancer in adult females. The incidence of breast cancer has been steadily rising since the 1980s which has been attributed to increased awareness and availability of mammographic facility. Aim and Objective: A descriptive and retrospect study on 200 adult females referred for either diagnostic or screening breast mammography at the mammographic suite of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital Sokoto between December 2010 and November 2012. This study aims to compare the outcomes following both screening and diagnostic mammography within the stated period. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective study on 200 adult female patients referred for either screening (77) or diagnostic (123) breast examination at the mammography suite of UDUTH Sokoto between December 2010 and November 2012. Results: The prevalence of diagnostic and screening mammography in Sokoto within the study period was found out to be 61.5% and 38.5%, respectively. Conclusion: Abnormalities found following diagnostic and screening mammographic examination were estimated at about 49.6% and 33.8%, respectively.

    • Introduction: Increased growth in three-dimensional imaging has created the opportunity for alternative measures of growth assessment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the cervical vertebrae maturation (CVM) method and closure of the spheno-occipital synchondrosis (SOS) in children and young adults using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Methods: Two hundred and seventy-five extended field CBCT scans of patients aged 6–30 years were analyzed. The cervical vertebrae maturity was assessed using the CVM method. The closure of the SOS was evaluated using a five-stage scoring system. Correlation and agreement between CVM and fusion of the SOS were analyzed for statistical significance. Results: A strong significant correlation (rs= 0.908; 95% confidence interval: 0.885, 0.927) was found between cervical vertebrae maturational status and the closure of the SOS. Based on the variables assessed, an ordinal regression model was constructed to predict cervical stage, to which age, gender, and SOS closure were statistically significant. Conclusion: This pilot investigation demonstrated that the maturation stage of the SOS, as determined using CBCT, is a potential indicator for skeletal maturity assessment.

    • Obstructive sleep apnea is one of the common sleep-related breathing disorders with several disorders associated along with it constitute along with obstructive phenomena’s, which includes primarily snoring, and upper airway resistance syndrome, which profoundly affects the health and the quality of life of an individual who suffer from it, along with the related entities of hypoventilation and central sleep apnea. Like other professional health-care people, orthodontist has a major role in diagnosis and treatment planning of obstructive apnea (OSA), due to his/her knowledge related to orofacial and dentofacial structures. This article gives a brief outlook about essential role of orthodontists in the treatment of OSA.

    • Functional appliances, fixed or removable, are primarily orthopedic tools used to influence the facial skeleton in a growing child. Class II malocclusion with a retrognathic mandible in a non -compliant post-pubertal patient can be treated using the fixed functional appliances. One such appliance which is in common use in clinical practice today is the FORSUS Fatigue Resistant Device (FFRD). To treat a 13-year-old female patient having a class II base, a retrognathic mandible, horizontal growth pattern, convex profile, an overjet of 7 mm, mild proclination of maxillary and mandibular incisors, Class II molar and canine relationship bilaterally, and a positive visualized treatment objective. Orthodontic department of a Dental college. FFRD. When used in the right case, the FFRD appliance can be comfortable and economical to both the patient and the clinician.

    • The most common inferior vena cava (IVC) malformation is hypoplasia of the pre-renal and renal segment followed by those in the post-renal segment and presence of double IVC. IVC malformation is reported to have equal gender predilection and occur in about 8.7% of the population. This is a case of a 25-year-old woman in her puerperal period presenting with abdominopelvic discomfort and bilateral lower limb swelling. The patient had abdominopelvic ultrasound scan and computed tomographic angiography, the ultrasound showed a cystic pelvic mass that seem continues with a dilated IVC. The angiography showed tortuous and dilated left iliac vessels with areas of filling defects; thrombi. Hypoplastic right common iliac vein with a dilated left renal vein and dilated IVC was also demonstrated. The patient has been on anticoagulation therapy with close monitoring by both cardiovascular and hematology units of the hospital. We report the radiologic findings of this case due to its unique nature and incidental presentation in the index case.
